Min. Janet W. Henley
Minister of Education
Minister Janet Henley serves her Lord as Minister of Education and Discipleship at Clifton Park Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, under the visionary leadership of Pastor Essentino A. Lewis, Jr. Early in her time at Clifton Park, the Lord impressed upon Minister Henley a specific call to lead the church in fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission to make “fully-devoted, self-initiating, reproducing” disciples of all, (Matthew 28:18-20). She earnestly believes that a disciple of Christ brings the at hand Kingdom of God into the spaces where they are, and, as a result, Christ can be known and lives and environments can be changed. She agrees with Henry Blackaby when he says that “God is always at work around us.” And she believes that the life most impacted by recognizing and participating in that work is the disciple herself. She sees her life as a living testimony of that reality.
Therefore, since 1991, Minister Henley has labored to the desired end that everyone who comes through Clifton Park would have the opportunity to be all that Christ died for them to be in Him and for Him (discipleship). Her prescription for God glorifying discipleship is a hearty dose of the Word of God (through Sunday morning preaching, group Bible study and a daily personal time of reading and praying the Word) and the application, practice and sharing of that same Word.

Minister Henley believes that discipleship’s best expression is disciplemaking. She, therefore, implements and oversees programs that support the work of developing those won to Christ to the end that they will win and develop others who will win and develop still others and so on (disciplemaking). One of those programs, The Connection Point, was birthed for the intentional purpose of giving seasoned Bible study students the privilege of pouring and reproducing their Christ-life into the lives of those inside and outside the walls of Clifton Park. The “those” range from non-believers to new believers to maturing believers to multiplying disciples. Clifton Park’s other disciplemaking programs implemented by Minister Henley include: AWANA (evangelism and discipleship program for children and teens with over 600 touched and reached since 2000); FAITH Visitation (Leader/Learner team model) and, its companion, The FAITH Foundations Series (Spiritual Coach-driven foundational Bible studies); Solid Rocks (boys mentoring); Precious Stones (girls mentoring); The Great Commission Groups (disciplemaking small groups); and a Deeper Discipleship Series for Christian Women Leaders of The Gambia, West Africa.
Minister Henley also offers herself as a grief counselor and support to those facing death, most especially the dying and then to their families during the dying and after the death has occurred. She would tell you that her “expertise” in the subject of death and dying grows out of a long-term desire to walk alongside persons and minister to them during this sacred time - helping them to speak to God and helping them to hear from God. She is humbled by the privilege of having walked with many “through the valley of the shadow of death.” Her burden is for people to be prepared for the moment and in the moment.
Minister Henley holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Lambuth College (now the University of Memphis at Lambuth), in Jackson, TN (her home town) and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Educational Ministry degree in Biblical Counseling from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.
Minister Henley enjoys life in Silver Spring, Maryland with her husband Douglas. They are delighted to be the parents of three young adult children, Michael, Timothy and Asha.
